We're going back in time and revisiting ten of the most influential moments that changed the internet forever. There are hundreds if not thousands of memes, videos, and gifs that have also had a massive effect on the internet, but these ones stick out the most. If we missed your personal favorite, send us an angry email and we'll throw it in the trash.
They did surgery on a grape.
Who can forget this classic? Straight to the point, on the nose, they did surgery on a grape is just one example of the internet running with the dumbest idea imaginable. Here's the original video.
After developing a precision surgical system, Edward Hospital demonstrated the technology by performing surgery on a grape. Here is the first known meme usage, and the rest was history.
"I Like Turtles."
Jonathan the zombie is forever etched into internet lore. After getting his face painted like a zombie, a Portland news channel approached him for an interview. That's when Jonathan gave perhaps the greatest answer in television interview history.
Flex Seal - "That's a Lotta Damage."
What did we ever do before Phil Swift and Flex Seal? The high-energy spokesperson won over our hearts with his commercials and demonstrations, but his most iconic moment was when he took a knife and a chainsaw to a plastic bucket in order to show how well Flex Seal actually works.
"I'm about to end this man's whole career."
The rap battle parody that gave us arguably the most iconic GIF ever.
If you've never watched the full video, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's hands down one of the funniest pieces of sketch comedy on the internet. It now has the meme legacy to back it up.
I don't care that you broke your elbow.
Ahh, a throwback to the good old days of Vine. Apps were so much better when video content could only be six seconds or less. Our hero in the yellow shirt here went viral, after stating that he didn't care that another kid broke his elbow. Allegedly the strong words were triggered by a fight over a Nintendo DS.
Father Christmas isn't being very nice.
How could we forget this 45-year-old British kid, who is arguing with his dad about being on the naughty list. The video went viral in 2018, and has become a Christmas staple. The boy makes some solid points about being on the good list. I know I wouldn't want to mess with him.
You know I had to do it to 'em.
What was it that Lucky Luciano had to do exactly? While we may never know, the internet ate this meme up. Another iteration caught on quickly portraying Luciano as a "cooler than you" hip-hop fan. And the meme became so popular that the street where this picture was taken eventually became a tourist spot for meme travelers.
The location and caption have both taken on lives of their own and will live on in the annals of internet history.
Charlie bit my finger.
Charlie bit my finger needs no introduction and is a first-ballot YouTube hall of fame entry, no questions asked. While we've all seen this famous video time and time again, it is worth your time to give it one more play.
Walmart yodeling kid.
Want to know how to make it in the music industry? Just ask Mason Ramsey AKA the Walmart yodeling kid. After a video went viral of him singing and yodeling to Lovesick Blues by Hank Williams at his local Walmart, he was signed to Big Loud Records. Mason is currently on tour with rapper, Yung Gravy.
Harambe.
Always remember, never forget. You don't know what you've got until it's gone. That's what Harambe taught us. The western lowland gorilla lived a good life up until that fateful summer day in 2016.
Due to some neglectful parents, a child climbed into Harambe's enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo, and workers were then forced to shoot him in order the save the child. His death struck a nerve all across the world.
"Dicks out for Harambe" became a popular rallying cry.
But that was just the beginning. Memes and support for our fallen comrade would continue rolling in.
A minor league baseball team even wore Harambe anniversary uniforms in his honor.
For millennials, it's a tough reminder that we've now lived through 9/11, a global pandemic, and the death of one of the kindest creatures this planet has ever known. Rest easy, sweet prince.
