Like Icarus before him, one man has ****** around and found out after taking things too far and pranking his bride on their wedding day. Writing into Slate’s Dear Prudence advice column, the bride in question shared her tale of woe.

She starts by explaining that each half of the couple took on half of the responsibility of planning the wedding, compromising when needed. Her only hard-and-fast rule was that he would not smash cake in her face at the reception, a fairly popular twist on the wedding tradition of newlyweds feeding each other slices of cake.

Come their wedding day, her husband technically listened to her request — rather than rubbing cake into her face, he grabbed her by the back of the head and smashed her face into the cake itself. He had planned ahead, knowing the cake would be destroyed, and had cupcakes as a backup, but obviously, the bride wasn’t thrilled, and told him the next day that their marriage was over. What makes things even worse is that she deals with claustrophobia following a car accident years ago, and so, being shoved into a cake and held there was incredibly stressful for her.

@angelacharmslife #stitch with @ebonywarriorstudios my heart breaks for this bride. Having cake smashed in your face is not comical when you plead with the one person that you should be able to completely trust. That would be an annulment for me! #weddingcakeinface #weddingcakesmash #trust #betrayal #notfunny #k18results ♬ original sound - ✨Angela’s Life✨

The bride was asking Prudence for advice because all of her loved ones have told her she’s overreacting and should give the groom a second chance. Prudence’s response was simple: They’re not the ones who have to wake up next to him every day. “So you only have to listen to yourself,” Prudence advised. “I think what he did was a red flag about not respecting you and your wishes — to say nothing of the physical aggression — but even if it wasn’t, the fact that you really didn’t like it is enough. Make a mental note about which of your loved ones don’t seem to value your happiness, and continue with your divorce.”

Commenters on r/weddingshaming also supported the bride’s decision, and expressed how sad they were that her husband couldn’t respect the one request she had made of him. Considering the bride wrote into Slate in early 2022, we can only hope that by now she has rid herself of this overgrown manchild and found happiness elsewhere — even if it was no piece of cake.
