What would you do if you woke up with an extra 100 grand in your bank account? Would you try to “do the right thing” and return it? Or would you ball out, buying as many stupid things as you could before the 100k runs out?

A man on the FlyerTalk forum is currently having this exact dilemma. According to user MahiMahi524, he was supposed to get an American Airlines refund for about $1,000. Instead, he was given $100,000.

“I called up AA,” his post reads. “they were insisting it’s correct, but obviously it’s not since the ticket was 100x less than that. After a very long discussion of me convincing them that they refunded me way too much, they said to email revenue.protection@aa.com with what I told them and they have no timeframe as to a result.”

The comments are, of course, filled with people calling MahiMahi524 the luckiest man in the world. However, MahiMahi524 seems pretty shaken by the whole thing, insisting that he can’t accept the refund because it would ruin his AmEx points (cry me a river — you’ve got 100k!).

This thread was posted on February 23rd, and as of the 26th, it still appears that MahiMahi524 has the cash, whether he wants it or not. AA has allegedly admitted that the refund was supposed to be $1,000. That said, they haven’t given him a real way to repay it.

If I were him, I’d just bet it all on black and see what happens.
