How many punches would you throw for a dozen eggs?

The price of eggs has gotten out of control. For context, a dozen eggs now costs an average of anywhere from $5 to $7 — prices that were unheard of just a few years ago.

Why is this? Well, there are a few theories. First, avian flu is killing egg-laying hens. Second, egg producers realized that they can just charge us whatever, and we won’t riot.

The truth is probably somewhere in between, except for the fact that people are, indeed, rioting — just not at the offices of Cal-Maine Foods. Instead, they’re freaking out at their local grocery stores, going on mad dashes to get as many eggs as possible and shoving as many people out of the way as needed.
