The Oscars is an award show for Hollywood elites put on by Hollywood elites. The categories and nominees are selected by a panel of Hollywood executives with no public consideration. The award show hosts are typically a comedian or popular figures of the era that can put on a happy face for the people at home, and praise the actors for their great work. This year they decided that person would be Amy Schumer, Hollywood's most hated comedian. 


Viewership for the Oscars has declined in recent years. Numbers show that in 2015 the Oscars had a viewership of an average of 35 million people, however, in the past years that number has drastically declined to around 10 million viewers. Television ratings may blame the poor numbers on the looming pandemic, but most people will tell you, they just don't care. 


Ever since Schumer has been announced, along with co-hosts Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall, fans of the award show are deciding maybe they will skip this year as well. 



Amy Schumer is known for appropriating other comedians' jokes as her own and benefiting from the labor of those that are actually funny. There are many other famous comedians that would have been a far better choice to get people to watch a program that has seen such a drastic decline in viewers. 



Schumer said in acceptance to the co-host position, "I’m not sure who thought this was a good idea but I am hosting the Oscars, along with my good friend Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall. I better go watch some movies."


Many people on Twitter agreed with this statement, one user saying, "I don't know who thought this either."


One user said, "Even when she's being somewhat self-aware she's not funny in the slightest."


Another commenter asserted they would rather have Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez host, which was talked about before Schumer, Sykes, and Hall were asked.


At this point, it's almost like they're sabotaging themselves and making sure people won't watch.
