Earlier this week, the Governor of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, directed government workers to add miniature bottles of Hennessy to care packages going out to residents. A photo of one such thoughtful care package seemed to include up to five 50ml bottles of cognac, or about half a pint in total.
The Governor said he was including alcohol among more standard supplies like toilet paper, cooking oil, and hand sanitizer because he'd heard drinking alcohol could kill the novel coronavirus if it was in your system.
“We will have some small bottles of Hennessy in the food packs that we will be giving to our people…” - Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

Note: WHO warns that drinking alcohol does not protect you against COVID-19 and can be dangerous pic.twitter.com/vuSuVAb8dy
The World Health Organization quickly chimed in to confirm that while alcohol can kill viruses outside the human body, it does nothing to combat them from the inside. In fact, it may actually increase your risk of contracting the virus.
Hennessy also made a boringly responsible statement denying any claims that drinking booze can somehow keep you safe from COVID-19. Although many people would probably argue that drinking does make all the time spent indoors nowadays pass by more smoothly.
If you're unfamiliar with Mike Sonko, he's been known to aid in drug trafficking, slap journalists, and live pretty lavishly. And as the video above shows, he was once thrown out of a parliament meeting for having too much swagger.
