The COVID vaccine, of course, has been the source of much consternation and conversation. But one question about it stands above all the rest: Whatever happened to the woman whose boobs became gigantic after she was vaccinated?

Late last year, an in-depth research paper was released about an unnamed 19-year-old, whose breasts went from a B cup to a GGG cup over a six-month period, during which she received two shots of the Pfizer vaccine.

If you don’t know bra sizes, just know that those are some big big naturals.

“A healthy, nulliparous 19-year-old woman experienced significant breast hypertrophy starting 1 week after receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in September 2022,” the paper explains with the really technical jargon to follow (you’ve been forewarned). “Her medical history was unremarkable, with no hormonal disturbances detected on bloodwork. The patient initially reported tingling paresthesia in her breasts, followed by sudden bilateral growth which worsened after receiving the second vaccine dose. Over 6 months, her breast size increased from a B cup to a triple G. Physical examination revealed dense, warm, edematous, ptotic breasts with no palpable masses or axillary lymphadenopathy.”

“Breast ultrasound and chest computed tomography showed diffuse bilateral breast enlargement with mild axillary lymphadenopathy and hyperattenuating areas likely representing hypertrophic tissue,” the paper/jargon continues (again, I warned you). “Core biopsies suggested fibroepithelial lesions, such as fibroadenoma, hamartoma, and PASH. Despite a trial of steroids and antibiotics, symptoms persisted and no clear etiology was identified, leading to the decision of surgical management (i.e., breast reduction).”

Social media erupted with news of a so-called “Pfizer boob job,” with most people calling bullshit on the claims.

After all, this wasn’t the first accusation of a vaccine causing unexplained swelling. Who can forget Nicki Minaj’s tweet about her cousin’s friend in Trinidad, who “became impotent” and gained huge, swollen balls because of the vaccine? He was “weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding,” Minaj lamented. The Health Minister of Trinidad and Tobago actually followed up the claim. “We wasted so much time … running down this false claim,” he sighed behind a mask at a slightly surreal press conference. “As we stand now, there is absolutely no such reported side effect or adverse event of testicular swelling in Trinidad or, I dare say, anywhere else in the world.”

So, what about the Pfizer boob job? The paper says the patient believed the vaccine to be the cause, but tests and research found no evidence to link the vaccine to the ginormous change in breast size.

Medically speaking, it was a case of gigantomastia — the technical term for rapid breast growth. It’s a rare condition that can be caused by puberty, pregnancy and a tiny handful of medications, but as mentioned above, for this 19-year-old, it was thought to be caused by something called PASH (pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia), a mass of non-cancerous cells that show up as a swollen lesion on the breast. PASH can lead to huge breast growth in extremely rare cases — the paper says there are “fewer than 20 reports of PASH presenting as bilateral gigantomastia,” making the Pfizer boob job a seriously rare case.

Even if the vaccine was somehow linked to this wild case of breast growth — and that’s a huge, Triple G cup “if” — there’s only one published case study tying the Pfizer vaccine to lasting changes in boob size, and no formal studies.

Obviously, there’s still research to be done — there are new research discoveries being made about long COVID, for example — but it’s safe to say the vaccine isn’t the medical equivalent of a free boob job. If it were, it’s pretty safe to say it would eradicate the antivaxx movement, too.
