“To date, in the peer-reviewed scientific literature, there is no conclusive evidence suggesting an extraterrestrial origin for UAP,” read the report, released on Thursday.

The “challenge” in studying these phenomena, it explained, is that “the data needed to explain these anomalous sightings often do not exist” due to the prevalence of eyewitness accounts.

But even though we have yet to make contact, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson put the likelihood of extraterrestrial life being out there at a “at least a trillion.”

“If you ask me, do I believe there’s life in a universe that is so vast that it’s hard for me to comprehend how big it is, my personal answer is yes,” he said when asked about whether extraterrestrials could exist on a planet similar to our own.

Considering this likelihood, Nelson avowed that the agency would use new scientific techniques — while working to combat “preconceived skepticism” surrounding UAPs — while investigating these phenomena.

“We want to shift the conversation about UAPs from sensationalism to science,” he avowed, noting that while the agency has long been dedicated to searching for life beyond our planet, “this is the first time that NASA has taken concrete action to seriously look into UAP.”
