Concierge Refuses to Call Fire Department for People Stranded in Elevator for 90 Minutes

When a group of at least four people found themselves stuck in an Ice Condos apartment complex elevator in downtown Toronto without cell service, they did what anybody would do, and called the front desk for help over the elevator's intercom. Except, instead of sending help or calling the fire department, the concierge they spoke to flat-out refused to help them.

"The procedure is for the security on-site to do that," she said about calling the fire department, "but I've let them know how you're feeling. I've also let them know about the ETA and they did tell me that there is no ETA at the moment."

The group continued to plead, especially when one woman began to pass out from the anxiety.

"Definitely a criminal negligence case coming for this condo corporation," Ari Kennedy commented. The Ice Condos complex has been the subject of many negative reports in the past, including an "elevator full of blood" that reportedly went uncleaned for multiple days in 2021.

"As a former building manager, I can tell you they don’t want the fire department there because they will get you out at the expense of the elevator…" Brian commented.

If that's the case, the condo board might wind up paying a little more than just the cost of fixing an already broken elevator.

The moral of the story: If possible, always call the fire department. As Chester commented, "Fire department here. Never seen an elevator car that we couldn’t get people out of."
