Self-driving technology has come a long way. What was once a novelty can now be trusted to give you a quick breather on the road, react to changing conditions, and deliver food to your front door, (as long as there's not a train in the way). But judging by the world's dumbest standoff between this cop and a self-driving taxi, it's not quite ready to reliably deliver you to your destination stress-free. 

Motioning with his hands, a motorcycle cop tries to direct a self-driving Waymo Jaguar I-Pace SUV taxi to make a right turn and detour around a roadblock. Unfortunately, this goes against the self-driving car's optimal route, and a stalemate begins. 

"Sir we cannot move, we're sorry," a passenger yells to the cop. "This car won't let us move!" 

Despite the officer's emphatic directions, the robot-taxi doesn't speak hand signals and comes to a halt. "Sir there's no one there," the passengers yell again. Unfortunately, the video ends as the officer approaches, and we don't get to see the resolution of the world's dumbest edition of man vs. machine.
