It could happen to anyone… right?

The phenomenon of “cops grabbing their guns when they meant to grab their tasers” is really having a moment right now. Anyone who’s held both a gun and a taser can tell you that they’re radically different items — and that anyone who confuses the two probably shouldn’t have access to either of them. And yet, not only are there people out there who regularly carry both, but they’re often on the police force! Hooray!

We already had the case of Kim Potter, who allegedly meant to grab her taser before shooting a man dead. Now, we have this video, where a cop chasing after a man threatens to tase him, shoots him, admits on the body cam that he screwed up and then denies ever trying to shoot at the man.

Officer Brandon Thomas, the lying cop who was wearing the body cam in the video, is currently on “limited duty status pending the outcome of the investigation.” No word on if he still has access to a gun, but he probably wouldn’t know it if he did!
