He ended up falling like, well, a cannonball.

A classic stunt is the “human cannonball,” where a person is shot out of a cannon and into a net. There are a few problems with this stunt: first, a human isn’t as aerodynamic as a cannonball, and second, a human requires a much cushier landing than its metal equivalent.

These two ideas came together in painful fashion over the weekend thanks to a stunt from daredevil Chachi "The Rocketman" Valencia at the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival.

According to Fox 11, Valencia had considered canceling due to weather, but decided to pull through with the stunt anyway. The weather soon turned on him, knocking him off course and causing him to bounce out of the net designed to catch him.

“Despite suffering multiple injuries — including cracked ribs and a broken wrist — Valencia left the hospital just hours later because he does not have health insurance and was concerned about medical bills,” writes Chelsea Edwards for Fox 11.

The stuntman now has a GoFundMe and promises he’ll be more careful in future stunts. Good for him.
