L.A. Cops Got Caught Running a Child Fight Club

Thirty officers have been implicated in the operation.

It’s just another one of those days where you wake up, read the news, wonder what the hell is going on, then wish you hadn’t gotten out of bed. Specifically, according to CNN, 30 officers from Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall are facing charges for allegedly turning the detention center into a real-life fight club — for kids!

According to the state attorney general, these “gladiator fights” weren’t just spontaneous brawls. Instead, officers reportedly scheduled them, allowing them to observe around 140 kids ages 12 to 18 having organized matches against each other. As this was happening, officers watched, laughed and even shook hands with participants, all while many of these fights were being filmed.

Attorney General Rob Bonta described it as “planned and intended,” with officers allegedly telling each other to keep it hush-hush and even advising kids to refuse medical treatment.

The L.A. County Probation Department was quick to distance itself, saying it “fully supports” the indictments and has zero tolerance for misconduct — which is a pretty bold thing to say after you’ve just been caught tolerating misconduct.

The 30 officers involved are currently facing charges including child endangerment and abuse, conspiracy and battery, though some have questioned whether there’s more going on that the public is not yet aware of. We’ll see, I guess!
