Back in 2013, British I.T worker James Howells accidentally discarded a hard drive loaded with an astonishing 7,500 Bitcoin -- currently valued somewhere around $350,000,000.
The price of Bitcoin has risen by nearly 12,000% in the time since Howells' agonizing mistake, skyrocketing from somewhere around a few hundred dollars per Bitcoin to the neighborhood of $50,000.
Howells is certain that somewhere within his local landfill rests a literal treasure he once possessed, the kind of generational wealth that could ensure lives of comfort for his children's children -- but has been unable to convince his local authorities to let him dig up the landfill in pursuit of it.
Howells lives each day now tortured by the "life that could've been." And we can certainly feel for the guy, whose story seems like something out of a Greek Fable -- a cautionary tale for the promises and perils of cryptocurrency.
