Tal Chatterjee is an actor and filmmaker in Hollywood, who recently posted a TikTok to her account detailing "Things the people who broke into my car didn't steal."

In the clip, Tal reveals that money, alcohol, prescription drugs, blankets, and other things a car burglar might want were untouched. Instead, the only items missing from the break-in were a pair of Tal's underwear, and copy of Donna Tartt's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Goldfinch.

The video drew plenty of attention, 18.1 million views worth, and people were concerned. "It’s a stalker which is worse honestly," one person commented. "It’s a stalker babe call the cops," someone else agreed. 

The next day, Tal posted an "update" video promising new footage. But instead of showing that footage, she shared the trailer for her new movie, Switch.

Many viewers were outraged, and immediately accused Tal of breaking the car window herself for attention. "I’m now convinced you shattered your own window," one person said. "Never watching that," someone else quipped about her movie. The negative response was excessive, even for those disappointed by the misdirection. "I can tell by this post alone, we would not get along lmao" the top comment read, gaining 22 thousand likes. 

The next day, Tal was forced to make a second followup video to explain herself and defend her actions. "I know it's kind of insufferable to say, but I'm a starving artist," she said. "So when there's eyes on me, I'm just going to redirect it to my art. That's the hustle. No one's helping me, I gotta hep myself."

She went on to assure that the break-in was not a stalker, and thanked people for their safety concerns. "My neighbor gave me his ring doorbell footage," she said. "It was a random tweaker guy." 

Despite this update, many people were still unhappy with her previous video. "It's not because you redirected the attention from a viral video to your art, but specifically the way you framed it," one person said. "You're basically exploiting people's genuine concern for you and their interest to see the situation resolved. You're misleading them for self promo."

While that person's opinions are understandable, the overwhelming hate that Tal received is not, especially considering that the break-in was most likely real. What do you think? Real break-in, or all for the movie?
