Someone Tried to Drive from Long Island to New York on the Subway Tracks
Cheaper than subway fare these days, amirite?
Depending on your route, taking the train is frequently as fast or faster than driving in a car through New York City. This is because traffic is a bitch and trains, even the terrible, outdated ones in use by the MTA, are designed to move a lot of people between two places with ease.
Still, some people just can’t wait for a train. For those who are particularly impatient, they might do what this guy did: pound a couple beers, then try to drive on the train track.
According to ABC7, the man was eventually caught after driving for a half mile, at which point “two tires on [his] SUV ignited, forcing the vehicle to stop.” Crews spent over three hours removing the SUV, repairing damage to the tracks and third rail and fully restoring service, eventually resorting to using a hydraulic lift to remove the thing.
